Earth Day and eco-friendly items seem to be popping up everywhere you look.
You can buy fabric paper towels, reusable sandwich bags, biodegradable trash bags, glass water bottles, and bamboo plates and cups. Green party planning, however, might still end up creating quite a bit of waste, especially if you don’t plan ahead.
Setting out recycling bins for guests can encourage them to reduce, reuse, and recycle, instead of just putting cans and glass in the trash.
Some recyclable items are easy to identify, others are not. Sarah Khandijan created these downloadable recycling guides that you can download and print, identifying common household items that can be recycled.
Sarah recommends you put copies throughout your home-one on the refrigerator to remind guests which food items they should rinse and recycle. Another next to the metal bins, as a helpful reminder to double check what’s in the bins.
You can easily make your own green party decorative recycling bins! Sarah bought these metal cans from Home Depot, and created labels to identify which items go in each bin. Name them anything you like, or use gift wrap or fabric to dress them up!
