Piedmont Distillers, a craft distillery in North Carolina, introduces a new family of Fruit Inclusions for the Junior Johnson’s Midnight Moon brand. The six available flavors are Midnight Moon Apple Pie,
Cherry, Strawberry, Blueberry, Blackberry, and Cranberry.
“Back in the old days, we’d put fruit in our moonshine,” said Junior Johnson, legendary moonshiner and part owner of Piedmont Distillers. “People always liked the fruit flavored ‘shine the best. I guess it’s because it was so easy to drink. Adding fruit to the jar made our moonshine really smooth and taste even better.”
Midnight Moon Apple Pie, Cherry, Blueberry, Blackberry, Cranberry and Strawberry start with Junior Johnson’s legendary family moonshine recipe. Every batch is handcrafted in small batches, made from American corn and triple-distilled to create an ultra-smooth, clean tasting spirit.
Then, the Fruit Inclusion spirits are made by hand-filling mason jars with fruit and Midnight Moon. Crafting the Fruit Inclusions is not actually as easy as tossing some fruit in a jar. The proof of the Midnight Moon base, the amount of fruit, the type of fruit and the quality of fruit are all critical to making the ultimate moonshine. Junior Johnson has brought his family’s secrets for finding the right balance of ingredients.
In keeping with the past, the Midnight Moon Apple Pie, Cherry, Blueberry, Blackberry, Cranberry, and Strawberry begin with a 100 proof Midnight Moon base. Once the all natural, gourmet-quality fruit infuses with Midnight Moon in the jar, the fruit will begin to absorb some of the alcohol. In exchange, the fruit will release its natural flavor and color into the spirit. The result is a very smooth, richly flavored spirit that tastes just like the fruit in the jar. No extracts, color additives, or artificial flavors are added. The flavor and color in the Midnight Moon inclusions comes from the fruit itself – just as nature (and moonshiners) intended.
“Midnight Moon Apple Pie, Cherry, Blueberry, Blackberry, Cranberry and Strawberry each have an amazing flavor. These spirits taste like real fruit, ‘cause they’re made with real fruit,” said Joe Michalek, Founder of Piedmont Distillers. “Handcrafting the Fruit Inclusions is not an easy process, but there’s just no substitute for the real thing and doing it right. The taste and quality of these spirits makes all of the challenges worthwhile.” The Midnight Moon Fruit Inclusions can be enjoyed simply over ice or in a variety of cocktails such as, Junior’s Cherry Cola (Midnight Moon Cherry over ice, filled with cola).
