Is it true? By now you may have heard about a potential comedy tour including Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock.
After spending several years outside of the spotlight in rural Ohio, Dave Chappelle gave a surprise standup show at New York’s Comedy Cellar and joked with audience member, and fellow comedian, Chris Rock about touring together.
According to a speculative Los Angeles Times report on Wednesday, Chappelle and Rock engaged in some serious on-stage banter on Feb. 27 after the first night at the Comedy Cellar.
Rock reportedly told Chappelle that he “should come down to Palm Beach,” to which Chappelle responded, “After next Tuesday, I’m free for like 11 years.” The pair went on to discuss their availability for a possible tour, leading Rock to mention that “by Halloween I could do dates.”
The Times also claims that the comedic duo texted rapper Jay-Z from stage and left a voicemail for Arsenio Hall.Chappelle has performed only sporadically since he walked away from his Comedy Central sketch comedy series, “Chappelle’s Show,” in 2005.
“This could be the show,” Chappelle said to Rock after he and his friend texted rapper Jay-Z from the stage and left a voicemail for TV personality Arsenio Hall. “Fireside chats with Chris Rock.”
“I’m in,” Rock said.
The Times said neither Rock’s representative nor two publicists who previously worked with Chappelle responded to requests for comment about the possibility of a tour, but lets keep our fingers crossed.
